The Midwest conference of the comparative and international education society (CIES)

October 10-11,2014
I have learned more form this conference specially the Technology and Internationalization session presented by linden Herrera, Brenda Nyandiko, and Patrick Mose, Which is talking about the educational opportunities and challenges in developing countries and the online learning, as well as the mobile phones uses and the "education for all project" in Kenya I like the idea that Women were using peer-to-peer media for civic education in that project, and I was very interested to hear more about the principles of critical pedagogy in the online classroom they also talked about the non-traditional adult education.
Technology is a tool to express about ourselves online but in the situation that we have in South Sudan I think we cant relay too much on it because there are huge number of people who are unreachable, and as we are living in the social media age, the question still remains in my mind, What exactly happen to the online files and digital records and which polices privacy is applied to keep them all safe?

  1. Really important questions Viola, we worry about internet privacy here as well! Hopefully, as social media and technology advances into South Sudan you can learn from some of our mistakes! I'm glad you were able to attend this session. Technology is very powerful and can bridge many gaps, but access is critical as is technological literacy. South Sudan will advance technologically and you will be at the forefront of that I'm sure!

  2. Dear Ajonga,
Technology is really poor in South Sudan specially the internet. You know how people struggle to connect using Zain connect. V-SAT which is better than Zain is so expensive to buy. So there are limited chances of internet use in which you will need to store data online, and you are asking of what will happen to online and digital records and with which policy, when we are not even connected in the first place.

  4. I think you have a brilliant idea but the problem am seeing in South Sudan is lack of electricity. When there is no electricity, the use of technology will be difficult because accessing the internet will be hard unless there is alternative power source that many others may not have.
